5 natural beauty hacks to try right now

Eating well doesn't only affect your body, it also affects your skin! As the biggest organ your skin it is also the largest barrier against infection. Keeping our skin healthy and hydrated is critical and we have 5 natural hacks you can use outside your daily skin routine!

Supercharge your smoothies

Smoothies are an amazing way to pack loads of nutrients in and whereas cold-pressed juices are equally packed with nutrients, they lack one key component known as fibre. Vida Glow Beauty Powder Cleanse contains 5g fibre per serve and if you add that to your own fruit and vegetables in a smoothie, you’ve got a winning fibre-packed combination. Fibre is really important to maintain a healthy gut and regulate bowel movements to eliminate toxins and waste from the body. Adding a dose of healthy fats to smoothies also helps to boost skin glow. Just 1tbsp of avocado (rich in monounsaturated fats and vitamin E) or flaxseed (rich in omega 3s) will help to give your skin a boost.

Pack healthy low sugar snacks

Healthy snacks are key to regulating blood sugar levels which in turn helps to regulate energy levels and how well we respond to stress (who else gets hangry??!). High sugar snacks will impact your blood sugar levels and can lead to craving more high sugar snacks just to fulfil that energy hit. Ultimately snacks that are well rounded with carbohydrates, fats and protein will keep you feeling fuller for longer and there are some perfect examples to include. Natural raw nuts are a perfect snack, they contain all three macronutrients or pairing a piece of fruit ie. an apple or banana with 1 tbsp of nut butter. If you need easy snacks on the go Beauty Bites make a great choice, they include protein, fats and carbohydrates whilst being low in sugar, high in fibre and with added collagen, are a bonus for your skin!

Antioxidants

Eat the rainbow! Yes, this is key to any well-balanced healthy diet. Colour and variety are essential and colour = antioxidants. Antioxidants are really important to reduce cellular damage caused by toxins in the body, for example; alcohol, medication, drugs, chemicals etc. And it's not all about fancy açaí bowls, frozen blueberries from the supermarket will suffice, along with a variety of greens, i.e. spinach, kale or bright fruits and vegetables, citrus fruits, mixed berries, capsicum, sweet potato and pumpkin. Some of the key ingredients in Vida Glow’s Beauty Powder Cleanse such as turmeric, ginger and cranberry are antioxidant powerhouses! For more inspiration, check out our blog for recipes!

Healthy fats

Omega 3’s are super important for skin health (not forgetting brain health too!) and research has shown that omega 3’s can help to reduce acne and breakouts. Omega 3’s are predominantly found in oily fish such as salmon, trout and sardines and whilst these are a really good source, they aren’t for everyone - hello vegetarians and vegans and there are some great alternatives to consider. Plant-based sources of omega 3’s include walnuts, flaxseed, chia seeds and one of my favourites hemp seeds which you’ll find stocked in our online shop!

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is really important for so many aspects of overall health, but one key function is its role in the creation of collagen. Collagen is created in the body and doesn’t necessarily need to be consumed through diet, however, Vitamin C does. The vitamin is a key component to collagen synthesis and the bad news is that as we age, our collagen production declines. The Vida Glow Beauty Powder Cleanse contains Vitamin C through ingredients like dandelion, sea buckthorn and ginger. Some other good sources include citrus fruits, berries, spinach, broccoli, capsicum and potatoes - essentially this falls back to eating the rainbow, and if you do that, naturally you’ll have your vitamin C covered.
